Lucent Names CEO for Spinoff

John Dickson, existing CEO of micro-electronics, gets the job

MURRAY HILL, N.J. -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced that John Dickson will become president and chief executive officer - designate of the company's Microelectronics business, which will be spun off into a separate company. Dickson, 54, has more than 20 years experience in the communications technology and computing industry and most recently has served as executive vice president and chief executive officer of Lucent's Microelectronics and Communications Technologies group.

"Working with John for the past few years has given me enormous respect for his business insight, operational experience and disciplined management style," said Lucent Chairman and CEO Richard McGinn. "He has essentially defined a new segment of the semiconductor industry-the fast-growing communications space -- which the Microelectronics Group now leads. There is no one better suited to lead the launch of this exciting new company than John Dickson."
