LightPointe Teams With Huawei

SAN DIEGO and SHENZHEN, China -- LightPointe, an innovator, designer and manufacturer of carrier-class optical transmission equipment using Free-Space Optics (FSO) technology, today announced a strategic partnership agreement with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., China’s leading telecommunications equipment company.

Under the agreement, LightPointe will manufacture FSO products for the China market under the Huawei brand. Several hundred FSO systems have already been deployed by Huawei with China’s largest carriers, including China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Netcom.

China has seen dramatic growth in telecommunications infrastructure and mobile telephone networks.

FSO provides high-bandwidth connectivity through the air at a fraction of the cost of traditional trenched fiber-optic cable, or where spectrum for microwave radios is too expensive or no longer available.

LightPointe offers the most comprehensive FSO equipment portfolio, with products providing bandwidth from 10 megabits to 2.5 gigabits for carrier and enterprise customers. LightPointe FSO products are protocol independent and seamlessly integrate into existing optical fiber and mobile wireless networks. LightPointe has deployed more than 2,000 FSO systems in more than 50 countries.
