SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:JNPR - News) today announced that Alcatel had chosen its leading technology to support Telecom New Zealand's next-generation telecommunications services. Alcatel deployed Juniper Networks M- and E-series platforms to power New Zealand's next-generation IP network. The deployment is integral to Telecom's plan to transfer all future telecommunications services to IP, while reducing capital expenditures and increasing functionality.

The M-series is designed and built for the services, scale and dependability required by world-class service providers, offering cost-efficient scalability and best-in-class IP routing and MPLS capabilities at the network edge and core. The platforms are access agnostic and reduce capital and operational costs by running multiple services over the same high density, small footprint platforms. This will enable Telecom to generate new revenue by deploying a wide range of new services such as gaming, video and virtual private networks (VPNs).

Juniper Networks E-series will play a key role in Telecom's plan to build and migrate its new mobile data service onto a scalable platform, as well as redesigning its wholesale delivery of Internet access. The E-series will also play a role in redeveloping and enhancing Telecom's remote access working solution.

"Alcatel chose Juniper as one of its key suppliers based on its product capabilities, particularly its scalability and flexibility to carry out multiple functions, allowing one common platform for spares, support and integration with the relevant operational platforms," said Charles Jarvie, chief technology officer for Alcatel in New Zealand.

"As a result of our unique strategic partnership with Telecom to build their trans-Tasman Next Generation Network, Alcatel sought a reliable and complementary supplier that had a well proven and sustainable track record in the industry," Jarvie continued. "Juniper Networks was a good fit because of its high availability, high performance and high packet throughput. One of the biggest challenges in moving to an all IP network is migrating all network services onto a common IP infrastructure and being able to deliver multiple services down a single access, prioritizing it from source to endpoint."

"We're pleased to have been chosen by Alcatel to help Telecom New Zealand create its new all-IP network from the edge to the core," said Adam Judd, vice president of Asia Pacific, Juniper Networks. "The scalable and service-rich network infrastructure based on platforms from Juniper Networks will enable the delivery of a range of IP services to Telecom New Zealand's customers without compromising network performance."
