DENVER -- The Country Code 1 ENUM LLC has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to the industry to build a Provider ENUM (sometimes referred to as "Carrier" or "Infrastructure" ENUM) Registry. The Registry will be used by the members of the LLC, as well as other interested service providers with assigned U.S. numbering resources, to facilitate interconnection between IP-based telecommunication networks. A copy of the RFP and the schedule of associated events are available at the CC1 ENUM LLC’s Web site at http://enumllc.com.

Concurrent with the issuance of the RFP, the LLC also published the results of its Provider ENUM concept trial that was conducted between September 2006 and June 2007. The U.S. Provider ENUM trial was based on the "Framework Document for a U.S. Provider ENUM Trial," adopted by the LLC membership. The results of the trial confirmed the basic architecture requirements for commercial implementation. The CC1 ENUM LLC plans are consistent with the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) ENUM Working Group efforts to progress a global solution for Provider ENUM. The proposed U.S. implementation of the Provider ENUM Registry, targeted for commercial availability in 3Q2008, should be easily transitioned to the global solution if and when it becomes available.

When completed, the Registry will provide a simple but elegant solution to determining interconnection points for the routing of telecommunications between IP-based networks. Membership in the LLC is not required to participate in the Registry, but such membership is welcomed.
