SAN FRANCISCO and WIESBADEN, Germany -- interNetwork, a leading provider of real-traffic based load testing solutions for access networks, today announced the release of smartTest 2.3. With this release, interNetwork has extended its product offering to include a highly scalable and cost-effective LNS module for testing emerging L2TP Access Concentration (LAC) functionality. smartTest 2.3 is the only software-based testing solution on the market today that offers complete, end-to-end L2TP testing in a pre-deployment environment, allowing customers to understand the true scalability of the services they intend to deploy.Internet users today rely heavily on L2TP connectivity to their Telco’s broadband access (BRAS) platforms. Testing the BRAS’s L2TP-LAC scalability and functionality is thus critical to the NEM’s who provide the BRAS systems and to the Telcos who provide the L2TP tunnel to the ISP. “Currently, most of our customers are using expensive hardware switches to terminate L2TP sessions, or are turning two network devices against each other. This approach is highly expensive, and suffers from poor scalability, requiring additional hardware devices to be provisioned for L2TP termination,” says Immanuel Patschke, interNetwork CTO.smartTest 2.3 provides the industry’s first end-to-end L2TP test solution. With the smartTest LNS module, Telcos and ISPs can now cost-effectively test LAC functionality by terminating hundreds of concurrent L2TP sessions over multiple tunnels. Additionally, smartTest generates stateful IP or PPPoX traffic for the BRAS to encapsulate within L2TP, replicating Layer 7 application transactions with inherent bursty user behavior. These application sessions can then be terminated by the smartTest LNS module, providing an end-to-end solution for Application traffic, allowing customers to stress their devices exactly as they’re deployed in the field.By virtue of its distributed software architecture, smartTest allows infinite scaling, considerably reducing the overall number of steps and testing cost. interNetwork Inc.
