REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CoSine Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: COSN - News), a leading provider of managed, network-based IP service delivery platforms for service providers, today announced that Frontier, a Citizens Communications Company, one of the nation's largest independent telecommunications providers, has selected CoSine's IPSX(TM) 9500 service processing switch with the advanced IP Service Generator+ (IPSG+(TM)) technology. Frontier will use CoSine's industry-leading IP service platform to provide small and medium-sized business (SMB) customers with managed routing services, site-to-site virtual private networks (VPNs), managed firewalls and secure remote access.

"After evaluating other products, we chose CoSine's IPSX because we feel CoSine currently has the best solution for Frontier's application," stated Les Saldanha, Frontier's Director of Network Planning and Engineering.

The CoSine solution gives companies the benefit of a dedicated private network without the attendant capital and operational expense. Each customer is allocated its own virtual router, carving out a highly secure piece of Frontier's network for each customer. Because the CoSine IPSX enables a wide array of services, Frontier can build offerings tailored to customers' needs, including data, video, voice or a combination of the three services. Additionally, the IPSX integrates legacy private networking technologies, such as frame relay, into the virtual router-based network. This will allow the Frontier customer to add new locations using the VPN service while maintaining the legacy private network.

"We are pleased to add Frontier to our growing list of North American service providers," stated Steve Goggiano, CoSine's president and CEO. "Frontier's innovative approach to service delivery is a model for the other incumbent providers that want new ways to deliver differentiated service offerings to SMBs in today's competitive environment."
