ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering (NASDAQ: EXFO, TSX: EXF) Photonics & Life Sciences Division announced today the introduction of a new software package that makes laser spectral analysis completely automatic. New FPS-250 Nuíiew software turns a personal computer into a sophisticated oscilloscope-like device that pinpoints exact laser spectral performance. The result is a better understanding of laser characteristics and therefore more meaningful experimental results in applications such as laser spectroscopy, chemical and environmental sensing, laser diode analysis and UV photolithography.

Used with a Fabry-Perot interferometer-based laser spectrum analyzer such as the SAPlus from EXFO Burleigh Products Group, FPS-250 software conveniently measures spectral characteristics such as laser linewidth, longitudinal mode separation, frequency stability and jitter.

“Our new FPS-250 Nuíiew package includes software as well as all the electronics necessary to interface any Burleigh Fabry-Perot interferometer-based laser spectrum analyzer with a PC,” said Allan Firhoj, Vice-President and General Manager of EXFO's Photonics & Life Sciences Divi-sion. “Measuring spectral characteristics with FPS-250 Nuíiew software is as simple as placing the cursor on selected peaks and reading the results. The completely automatic spectral measure-ments eliminate the need to rely on manual interpretation of rough oscilloscope gradations.”
