VANCOUVER -- Convedia Corporation, the global leader in IP media processing for VoIP and IMS networks, today announced the introduction of eXtended Media Processing™ (eXMP™) technology. eXMP technology will form the technical foundation for extending Convedia’s proven carrier-class IP media processing expertise to cover the entire range of media processing deployment options, from small enterprise customer point solutions running on third-party platforms such as ATCA®- and Linux™-based servers, up to the largest carrier-class IMS multi-service deployments running on purpose built hardware. With the introduction of eXMP technology, Convedia delivers a “one-stop shop” for IP media processing solutions regardless of form factor/platform, control protocol, market, and application.

Convedia eXMP technology is the evolution of Convedia’s industry-defining, carrier-class media processing expertise into a modular, portable technology suited to the entire range of media processing needs. eXMP technology is hardware and processor independent, and is optimized to run on dual/multi-core general purpose CPU- or DSP-based platforms. Solutions using eXMP technology will comprise multiple configurations, from purpose-built high end media servers, through ATCA blade and hardware accelerator products, to software-only implementations running on generic Linux servers or embedded in proprietary third-party platforms such as routers, switches, and gateways.

For the enterprise telecommunications market, Convedia eXMP technology gives access to the same media processing features, management, and control interface options available on existing Convedia media server products, while extending these capabilities to a broader range of deployment platforms.

“When it comes to media processing, there’s a need for maximum flexibility in order to address the widest possible range of customers,” noted Graham Finnie, Senior Analyst at Heavy Reading. “There is no one form factor that addresses all requirements, so vendors that are supporting all major platforms and offering both hardware and software variants are in a better position to meet all the emerging market needs in this dynamic sector.”

VANCOUVER -- Convedia, the global leader in IP media processing for VoIP and IMS networks, today announced two new products – the CMS- 3000™ and CMS-9000™ Media Servers. The CMS-3000 and CMS-9000 Media Servers are based on a new, modular hardware platform which incorporates the latest DSPs and processor chipsets, and are the first products to be based on Convedia’s recently-announced eXtended Media Processing™ (eXMP™) technology. Leveraging the company’s IP media processing expertise and over five years of field deployments with the most demanding service providers worldwide, the CMS-3000 and CMS-9000 Media Servers have been designed to provide optimal performance, flexibility, and economics in media-intensive IMS networks and services.

The convergence of the telecommunications industry around the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture has dictated a new level of sophistication for IP media processing solutions. The processing of XML-based scripts for IVR applications, storing and retrieving multimedia files for messaging applications, the growing use of low bitrate audio codecs, high complexity video codecs, and sophisticated VoIP security, including media encryption, require increasingly powerful and flexible IP media processing platforms. Convedia has responded to these challenges with new IP media processing hardware and embedded software technology, while making the new technology fully backwards compatible with existing Convedia media server deployments.

“Convedia has demonstrated a track record of leadership and innovation in the IP media processing market, and the introduction of the CMS-3000 and CMS-9000 Media Servers based on their eXMP technology continues that tradition,” said Stephane Teral, Directing Analyst at Infonetics Research. “According to our research, Convedia has consistently maintained their #1 position in the IP media server market, both in terms of ports shipped and revenues for the past eight quarters. The new products and technologies they are introducing this week will likely play an important role in helping them to maintain that position.”
