Cisco MIA

11:45 AM -- NEW YORK -- Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) is conspicuously absent from Ethernet Expo 2007. They're not speaking at any session, and to my knowledge, they haven't sent a single representative.

That's fine with me (being on the editorial side, I couldn't care less who sponsors us). But since Cisco was here the past couple of times around, folks are talking. What's made them bow out this year?

This being a blog, I'm not even bothering to ask Cisco. Let's go straight to rampant, uninformed speculation.

Is it fear of PBT? Disgust over the Mets? Our breath?

Anyone who's got a good theory, please post on the message board below. Realism not encouraged.

re: Cisco MIA Craig,

Maybe they are missing in more ways than one? It's been a while since I've read/heard about Cisco's carrier Ethernet strategy, what they are going to do about MPLS, whether they like PBB-TE, where's their packet-optical strategy, e.t.c.

Perhaps with all the new emphasis on Consumer markets and "Web 2.0," Cisco is putting less and less emphasis on their carrier strategy?

re: Cisco MIA In defense, Cisco has been a supporter at the past two years' shows...

Lettermen was on last night in NYC ...maybe he can explain?

Top 10 reasons cisco was MIA?

Number 10: No Leading Light to shed on PBT vs. MPLS

Number 9: Thought the cash cow wasn't in mid-band Ethernet (see Light Reading Pics)

Number 8: AWOL watching the Bush press conference on the war efforts ealier this week

Number 7: Prepping cisco's "PBB CTE" spec on their new next-gen switch

Number 6: Thought they would just virtually attend using some new TeleManagement solution???

Number 5: Covered their bases by already meeting with the 1000's --oops---100's of carriers left after M&A

Number 4: Were planning next year to do a hostile takeover of LR EExpo anyways..

Number 3: End-of-year diet of no chocolate fruit fountains or MEF candy

Number 2: Had to return their tickets for the Yankees vs. Indians playoffs

And the number 1 reason why cisco was MIA?

Number 1: "read my lips, we're already #1 in Ethernet..."

End of story you had to be there...
