PHILADELPHIA -- AT&T today announced that J. Michael Schweder will become AT&T President-Pennsylvania beginning Oct. 1, 2002, taking over for Jim Ginty, who is retiring Sept. 30 after 25 years with the company. Mr. Ginty has been president of AT&T-Pennsylvania since 1997. Schweder, a resident of Bethlehem, Pa., has worked at AT&T for 19 years in a variety of positions and will continue as AT&T-New Jersey President, a position to which he was named in November 2000. In Pennsylvania, Mr. Schweder will lead AT&T's entry into the state's residential local phone service market. AT&T recently announced that it has begun a market trial of residential local phone service in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, and hopes to launch its competitively priced local calling plans in both cities later this year. "Pennsylvania is an important market for AT&T, and Mike is a strong leader who knows Pennsylvania well," said AT&T President and Chairman/CEO-designate David Dorman. "Jim Ginty has done an outstanding job leading AT&T's Pennsylvania team. Under his leadership, the team has succeeded in making important contributions to AT&T's effort to bring competition to the telecommunications market. AT&T Corp.
