CAMPBELL, Calif. -- I-Cube, Inc., today announced that Alcatel (NYSE:ALA) has selected I-Cube's IQX320 Crosspoint Switch to provide sub-lambda aggregation functions for the new Optinex(r) 1680 Optical Gateway Cross Connect (OGX). Alcatel's 1680 OGX internal switching fabric is comprised of multiple I-Cube IQX320 Crosspoint Switch ICs. This silicon-efficient non-blocking crosspoint architecture connects 320 input/output buffers (IOBs) in one-to-one or one-to-many connections. The very large switch fabric enables manufacturers to design highly expandable cross-connect equipment that can be upgraded to meet future requirements.

"Alcatel used the I-Cube IQX320 Crosspoint Switch to develop the world's first Optical Gateway Digital Cross-Connect," said Miguel Garcia, vice president of marketing for Alcatel's U.S. terrestrial networks activities. "These high-speed CMOS silicon devices are more flexible, have higher port densities, and consume less power than costly SiGe or GaAs devices. As a result, the I-Cube switch IC has enabled Alcatel to design a leading-edge optical gateway with a small footprint, low power consumption and very high reliability."
