SlideshowCisco Partner Summit Photos: Deep in the Heart of Networks
Mitch Wagner

DALLAS -- Cisco Partner Summit -- Cisco's new multicloud and networking strategy took center stage at the company's annual partner gathering recently.

Highlights of the conference included introduction of "Spark Assistant," a conversational assistant like Amazon Alexa or Apple Siri, but made for meetings. (See 'Hey, Spark!' Cisco Launches AI-Powered Voice Assistant for Meetings.)

Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) and partners also promoted their vision for putting IT back in charge of enterprise technology infrastructure through their multicloud technology and services. (See Cisco: We'll Put IT Back in Charge .)

And there was a somber moment of reflection for a lost friend.

There were more news and insights from the conference, and we'll bring you those over the next few days. But first this slideshow of some of what we saw (clap clap clap clap) deep in the heart of Texas.

Dragon Lady
I flew to Dallas on Halloween. The gate agent was Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones. Alas, the WiFi was down on our dragon, so I had to send ravens instead of email.

How nice. You were lucky, and a great opportunity for an extra picture for the gallery!

Re: Airport fun
If I recall correctly, most of the gate agents were dressed in normal clothes. I did see a few folks in costumes moving around the airport.

Sad ending
That’s a beautiful picture of Cisco's Terri Gracy-Udoh. I suppose that’s how Cisco wants to remember her. It’s very sad when people die unexpectedly, leaving so many chapters of their life open. So we have in this gallery: happiness and fun at the beginning; sadness and something to think about at the end. I think they work well that way.

Airport fun
It should be Halloween all the year around at airports. They have become increasingly sources of stress. A couple of weeks ago, there was this guy at the digital boarding pass check at London-Gatwick. I was going through the Apple wallet trying to find my boarding pass when this guy comes to ask me if I was Okay, in a strange familiar voice. I was standing waiting for the face scan and could heard him breathing. He sounded like Dark Vaider! I turned around and he smiled. He said: ”I know!,” obviously guessing what I was thinking. He then showed me the device from which he was speaking through, several Dark Vaider pins on his black tie, and he was absolutely nice and friendly. I then went through to security check with a smile. That was a rare moment of freindliness at the airport, where basically everybody seems to treat you as a suspect. Did all the gates have characters, Mitch?
