Energis Uses Marconi MSPP

LONDON -- Marconi Corporation plc (London: MONI and NASDAQ: MRCIY) has announced that its OMS1664 optical multiservice platform is being deployed by Energis as the operator prepares its UK core transmission network for next-generation IP-based services. Energis signed a contract with Marconi in March to build a next-generation transmission network that will reduce its operating costs while adding the flexibility to offer new data services.

The new Energis national core network will be built on existing PMA32 Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing platforms from Marconi and the new OMS1664.

The Marconi OMS1664 platform is designed for flexible deployment in a range of applications. It is a high-density, full-connectivity service delivery platform as well as a compact, high-capacity traffic aggregation and switching device. It will allow Energis to support increasing levels of data traffic seamlessly alongside existing voice and other services while substantially reducing network costs.

The OMS1664 integrates with Marconi's optical core and metro WDM solutions and offers new ITU-approved data enabling capabilities - fully standardised Generic Framing Procedure (GFP), Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS) and Virtual Concatenation (VCAT) solutions. These technologies allow carriers, such as Energis, to offer variable bandwidth services to customers, making their network more flexible and cost effective.
