HERNDON, Va. -- NEC Eluminant Technologies, Inc. (eLUMINANT), a leading provider of fiber optic technology access products today announced Release 2.1 of the VISTA(R) Intelligent Access Multiplexer. The VISTA is a next generation, economical, and very compact OC-12 multiplexer designed to intelligently optimize SONET for deployment in the local loop. It merges high-speed optical and electrical with a wide selection of loop access services.

New features have been added to the VISTA. For example, the VISTA's new DS3 transmux card essentially replaces the M13 multiplexer. VISTA also provides functionality such as hairpinning, which allows DS1s to be switched locally within the same central office (CO). The eLUMINANT system offers in-service monitoring of VT1.5 and DS1 signals with the new test access card (TACC), which enables ILECs and CLECs to perform many of the functions found in more expensive digital cross-connect systems.
