ANAHEIM, Calif. and JESSUP, Md. -- Covega Corporation, a leading provider of state-of-the-art, opto-electronic components and subsystems for the cable television, industrial, medical, military and telecommunication industries, today announced SAF-1126 (C-band) and SAF-1118 (L-band) gain chips with low front facet reflectivity covering S, C and L-bands – perfect for a variety of laser applications, including widely tunable lasers.

Covega’s Single Angled Facet (SAF) gain chip is a high power InP active waveguide element. The device employs a proprietary multi-quantum well design offering maximum power, broad tunable bandwidth, low facet reflectivity and high coupling efficiency with stable operation in an external cavity laser. The proprietary SAF design allows for low modal reflectance at the angled facet and customizable reflectance from the straight facet. The gain chips are qualified to Telcordia GR-468.

“Covega’s SAF-1126 (for C-band) and SAF-1118 (for L-band) are receiving acceptance in the telecom industry as the ideal gain chip for external cavity tunable laser and tunable transponder applications, delivering over 40 mW of output power over the entire band,” said Peter Heim, Vice President of Advanced Technologies at Covega Corporation. “Our optimized designs allow for stable operation of the external cavity laser,” added Heim.

Coupled with its Lithium Niobate modulator technology, Covega is delivering key components and elements critical to the universal platform of tunable transponders with a low cost and small footprint covering 10Gb/s to 40 Gb/s applications.
