Teknovus Supports TDM

PETALUMA, Calif. -- Teknovus, the leading provider of Gigabit Ethernet Optical Network (GEPON) chipsets for the deployment of Triple Play in broadband access networks, announced support for TDM-based services. For the first time, GEPON systems will have the ability to support traditional leased-line services. Teknovus is introducing two new chips, the low-cost TK3515 for ONU applications and the high-density TK3525 for OLT applications, thus providing efficient, end-to-end support for TDM-over-Ethernet services. Teknovus’ solution enables carriers to move all their existing services to an Ethernet-based PON network, providing significant reductions in the high OPEX and CAPEX associated with multiple overlay networks.

The TK3515 and the TK3525 TDM transport chips provide circuit emulation of T1/E1/J1 on any Ethernet switched network, including all types of PON networks. In addition to reduced OPEX and CAPEX from the use of a single network, carriers can apply tiered SLAs (Service Level Agreements) to all services, providing traffic management and pricing flexibility as advanced video services are deployed. The Teknovus approach also enables EPON-based cell-site backhaul by meeting the stringent delay requirements of the rapidly expanding 3G cellular market.

Teknovus’ patented PON synchronization solution achieves a delay of less than 1.5 ms in both the upstream and downstream directions, thereby meeting or exceeding all ITU-T specifications including latency, jitter and wander. Teknovus is the first company to provide this level of performance with the low cost and flexible connectivity of packet-based circuit emulation (based upon the PWE3 standard), thereby eliminating the need for fixed, dedicated bandwidth as is required in the ITU-T systems. TK3525 exceed the strict time delay limitations using circuit emulation on a PON, providing a cost-effective solution for moving traditional services to the Ethernet world. Teknovus’ TDM solution was designed for easy integration into deployed GEPON systems without requiring service interruptions.
