RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Overture Networks, the industry’s trusted Carrier Ethernet solutions provider, today announced it has selected Cavium Networks’ (NASDAQ:CAVM), OCTEON MIPS64 Multi-Core processors to further expand the features of its ISG 6000 Carrier Ethernet aggregation system. Cavium Networks is a leading provider of highly integrated semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, storage, wireless, video and security applications. Overture Networks is using the capabilities of the OCTEON processor to deliver a dense, flexible and cost-effective solution for aggregation of Carrier Ethernet services.

The ISG 6000 Carrier Ethernet Aggregation System, with its MaestrOS™ operating system, is specifically designed to seamlessly unite the three worlds of Ethernet, IP and TDM at the network edge, accelerating the transformation to Carrier Ethernet infrastructure and services. The first of a new family of products from Overture Networks, the ISG 6000 fits neatly between the costs of the point products and big iron products. It offers the complete set of services required for a provider to Ethernet-enable their infrastructure and to take advantage of the cost benefits of an all-packet network.

“Overture Networks has always provided our customers with products that have a rich, flexible and upgradeable set of packet-processing features,” said Prayson Pate, Vice President of Engineering at Overture Networks. “The OCTEON processor enables our ISG 6000 to expand the features and services that we deliver, both in terms of scale and depth. In addition, the tremendous computing power and simple programming model of OCTEON eased our development effort. Finally, the flexibility of the platform will allow us to rapidly adapt to changing market conditions and the requirements of our customers throughout the life of the ISG 6000.”
