Comcast's VC Arm Funds BelAir

Comcast Interactive Ventures has invested an undisclosed sum in WiFi mesh play BelAir Networks Inc. as the startup preps new products aimed at -- surprise! -- cable operators.

The investment was part of the firm's newly completed series C round. BelAir didn't reveal exactly how much it made this round, but did say that it brings total funding to $44 million. The startup has previously banked around $22 million in VC, so the series C just might be in the region of $22 million.

It's not yet clear that will use BelAir products just because its investement arm has put some money into the company. But BelAir is clearly banking on some cable action with its new boxes.

The company says the new BelAir50 and BelAir100 have DOCSIS 2.0 interfaces so that they can be installed anywhere in existing cable plants so that MSOs and cable operators can offer new services easily to consumers and businesses.
