SAN RAMON, Calif. -- Kodiak Networks the leading advanced wireless systems provider, today announced that Cingular Wireless has deployed the Kodiak Real-Time Exchange(TM) (RTX) System to power Cingular's innovative voice services, including Push to Talk (PTT). The suite of advanced voice services are available to Cingular's consumer, business and federal customers on two handsets that can be purchased through the company's online store and nationwide retail locations.

The Kodiak RTX is the only commercial system to enable advanced voice services that go beyond PTT. The following functionality is included in Cingular's initial service launch:

  • Instant Availability - Displays the current availability of friends, family, co-workers, customers and suppliers to receive a wireless call. Availability includes "available", "silent mode", "do not disturb", and "offline" states.

  • Voice Messaging - Allows instant voice messaging from Kodiak-enabled phones to contacts/groups with any wireless or landline phone - without waiting to leave a message or ringing the other person's phone.

  • Call Me Alerts - Allows individuals to send onscreen call alerts to users who are away from their phone or have their phone turned off.

  • Quick Groups - Allows users to quickly create groups on their handset by simply selecting contact names and then initiating a group call.

  • Handset-Based Contact Management - Customers can manage their contact lists directly on their handset contacts or via a web interface. Contact information is automatically stored on the carrier network and can be instantly retrieved in the case of a lost or stolen phone.

"With a current subscriber base of 52 million wireless customers, Cingular has the ability to create the largest in-network calling community in the industry," said Ken Hyers, Principal Analyst, ABI Research. "Cingular's nationwide coverage, pricing plans and purpose-built handsets makes this group-oriented service particularly compelling to families and businesses. These established groups are a natural audience for these next-generation voice services, which are specifically designed to make group communications more efficient."

"We selected Kodiak Networks based on the overall performance and unique features that would be available to our customers on a nationwide basis," said David Christopher, vice president-consumer product development, Cingular Wireless. "The Kodiak RTX enables a suite of premium voice services applications and functionality that we have found will appeal to our broad customer base."
