Capella awarded 27th patent for optical routing technology and control

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Capella Intelligent Subsystems, Inc., the leading provider of subsystems for use in reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) applications, today announced that the United States’ Patent Office has granted the company its 27th patent associated with Capella’s WavePath® product family.

The company also announced today that it has retained leading global intellectual property law firm, Kirkland & Ellis LLP, to represent it with respect to the company's patented proprietary position in the marketplace.

In addition to the 27 issued patents, Capella has over thirty pending patent applications. Over the past six years, Capella has filed nearly one patent application per month in key areas of optical switching and management for communications.

“Capella is a technology leader in defining what has become to be known as Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS) subsystems for telecommunications applications”, said Larry Schwerin, president and chief executive officer of Capella. “Many of our patents, such as US patents 6,879,750 and RE39397, cover the basic architecture of the WSS.”
