AURORA, Ill. -- Westell Technologies, Inc., (NASDAQ:WSTL - News), a leading provider of broadband access products, gateways and conferencing services, announces today the new TriLink IMS gateway, an advanced broadband gateway that enables the delivery of converged wireline-wireless IMS services and applications for carriers. The new TriLink IMS gateway is a key component in a network operator's plans to offer anytime, anywhere access to personalized IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) based services and applications. Westell will demonstrate the new TriLink IMS gateway for the first time at TelecomNEXT in exhibit Booth 1249 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Westell's TriLink IMS gateway delivers a fixed mobile convergence (FMC) solution that enables seamless roaming between legacy wireline POTS and wireless networks using a dual mode mobile/Wi-Fi phone. The TriLink IMS gateway offers up to four distinctive ring patterns depending on the number dialed. To assure that voice communication and data traffic can be simultaneously supported with consistent, uninterrupted quality, the new TriLink IMS gateway supports multiple SSID's. Quality of Service (QoS) and advanced power management capabilities, which maximize dual mode phone battery life, are provided in accordance with IEEE 802.11e.

Westell's new TriLink IMS gateway is the next-generation model of its TriLink gateway, which was launched in early 2005. This simple-to-install device integrates multiple broadband technologies and accommodates wired/wireless networking for residential and small business applications.

Other advantages of TriLink IMS include:

  • Built-in ADSL2+ modem and router for easy and reliable turn up and operation.

  • VersaPort2(TM) dedicated Ethernet WAN up-link port that supports emerging access technologies, such as Fiber to the Premises (FTTP) or any other existing broadband connection such as a cable modem.

  • Two integrated SIP VoIP access ports with POTS fallback upon power loss, which minimizes the need for additional complex hardware and battery back up.

  • 802.11g access point for 54 Mbps wireless networking and 4-port Ethernet switch for wired networking.

  • Remote device management via the DSL Forum's TR-069 standard, which lowers operating costs.

  • Proven interoperability of 3GPP IMS with multiple carriers and softswitches.

  • IMS interoperability

  • Multi-network interoperability (fixed and mobile networks)

The TriLink IMS gateway is a key component for solutions based on an IMS architecture. It provides wireline and wireless carriers a proven gateway product from an equipment manufacturer that has the ability to work through the interoperability and customization that is required for a successful IMS solution today. IMS system and softswitch providers benefit from having a partner capable of jointly developing and delivering complete solutions that meet the specific carrier application and feature requirements.

"The new TriLink IMS gateway paves the way for carriers and system integrators to develop, integrate and roll out new powerful, IMS-based services and applications," said George Pitsoulakis, Westell Product Line Director. "This unique IMS VoIP gateway is available today and demonstrates Westell's innovation and response to service providers' requests for an affordable, easy-to-install device that delivers fixed mobile converged services," he said.
