Tellabs Unveils Ethernet Interface

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Tellabs (Nasdaq: TLAB) unveiled a new Ethernet switching unit (ESU) that enables customers of the Tellabs 8100 managed access system to potentially increase their new services revenue by up to 50 percent. The new ESU, an interface to the Tellabs 8100 managed access system, enables carriers to optimize bandwidth utilization in the access network by offering additional best-effort services such as data-over-Ethernet. Carriers can also use Tellabs' new ESU interface to manage more customer connections and maintain mission-critical traffic. Working with the Tellabs(R) 6300 transport switching equipment, the ESU for the Tellabs 8100 system breaks the access bandwidth bottleneck by offering a choice of capacities ranging from 64 kilobits per second (kbps) to 12 megabits per second (Mbps). The new ESU's fine granularity enables service providers to offer the exact bandwidth their customers need, providing cost-effective, carrier-class, IP (Internet protocol) networking.
