STOCKHOLM -- PacketFront, the world leader in FTTH (fibre to the home) technology and next generation broadband aggregation, has announced today that it has received a prestigious order from the Norwegian utilities company Troms Kraft. Together with NetNordic, a Norwegian company specialising in network intergration and triple play over broadband networks, PacketFront will deliver the first fibre-based open access broadband network in Norway. The contract is worth 100m NOK (12m Euros) over three years.
PacketFront is working with Troms Kraft to create an open access FTTH infrastructure which will allow several different service providers to offer competitive triple play services over the same physical network. Troms Kraft's customers will be able to choose from a range of broadband services from a number of leading service providers - including Canal Digital and Viasat - all delivered over a single unified network.
"Troms Kraft is striving to become a ground-breaking utilities company," said Knut Einar Olsen, Managing Director at Troms Kraft. "We have now established a competitive regional fibre-based network and hope to reach up to 20,000 homes and 2,000 businesses within the next three years. Our open access network will increase the amount of choice our customers have from their broadband services, and allow us the flexibilty to grow and develop these services in the future."
