Opticom Tests Triple Play

RLANGEN, Germany and SAN JOSE, Calif. -- OPTICOM – the Perceptual Quality Experts from Germany – today announced a new and comprehensive Triple-Play Solution for Quality Measurement (3SQM™) that will significantly advance quality optimization of Triple-Play installations and thus push deployment of QoS for VoIP and IPTV. OPTICOM’s Triple-Play SQM is the first and only quality testing metrics that fully incorporates perceptual measurement of Voice quality, Audio/Video analysis as well as the brand new Download quality analysis, thus assessing web-browsing access quality from a user’s point of view. The latter analysis is based on PEDQ™, the Perceptual Evaluation of Download Quality algorithm that marks OPTICOM’s latest development of topnotch quality assessment metrics. PEDQ has been proposed as draft new ITU standard and is expected to be released as a recommendation later this year.

PEDQ just complements OPTICOM’s renowned family of test algorithms, including PESQ (ITU-T P.862) for voice quality analysis of VoIP, PEAQ (ITU-R BS.1387) for audio quality analysis of MP3 (and similarly) encoded music streams and PEVQ for video quality analysis. Common to all perceptual test designs is that they calculate the 5-point Mean Opinion Score (MOS), the perceptual QoS metrics that best describes user experience in a way retrieved from subjective analysis.

OPTICOM believes that there is no other approach that can better depict customer’s subjective perception than the quadruple key performance indicator (Quadruple KPI) of PESQ-, PEAQ-, PEVQ- and PEDQ-MOS.
