CORNING, N.Y. -- Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) will highlight its innovative fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) solutions in a unique model deployment within its exhibit (booth #704) at the 2004 FTTH Conference and Expo, Oct. 4-6 in Orlando, Fla. In this interactive exhibit, many of Corning's FTTH technologies and services will be displayed in a literal representation of an access network - from the local convergence point to the customer premises.

Corning, a world-leading supplier of optical fiber, cable, hardware and equipment, will showcase its Evolant(TM) Solutions for Access Networks with NexCor(TM) optical fiber. In particular, products from the Corning Cable Systems Access Advantage Solution, part of the Evolant Solutions portfolio, will be deployed. Customers will be able to see exactly where the Corning products fit into their network, and how the Advantage Solution makes deploying FTTH networks faster, easier and more cost-effective.

In addition, Corning will illustrate the clear advantage of NexCor fiber for triple-play networks with a technical demonstration within the booth that reproduces an actual centralized video distribution network. In this configuration, video will be transmitted 40 kilometers from a video headend to a central office, then continue an additional 20 kilometers in a typical passive optical network (PON).

This demonstration illustrates the enhanced capability of NexCor fiber to transmit video signals over longer distances. The result is a more cost-effective network design with an optimized single-mode fiber that is fully compatible with other standard single-mode fibers.

Through its Evolant(TM) Solutions for Access Networks, Corning Cable Systems offers specialized portfolios of innovative products and services that enable customers to cost-effectively deploy fiber in the last mile. In addition to its Access Classic Solution, the Access Advantage Solution was designed to increase the ease of installation and speed of adding subscribers from the local convergence point to the customer premises.

"The Advantage Solution gives our customers an additional choice regarding cabinets, terminals, drop cable assemblies and network interface devices," said Dr. Bernhard Deutsch, director of market development at Corning Cable Systems. "The cost reductions derived from this new solution are unmatched in the industry."
