DERRY, N.H. and HORSHAM, Pa. -- Cedar Point Communications, Inc., a leader in packet-based voice switching technologies for the cable industry, and Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) Broadband Communications Sector today announced a strategic collaboration agreement to advance the deployment of packet-based cable telephony services.

Under the agreement, Motorola will support the combined end-to-end voice- over-cable solution that includes Cedar Point's SAFARI C(3)(TM) integrated switching system, the Motorola Broadband Services Router (BSR) 64000 CMTS, Motorola SURFboard(R) multi-terminal adapters (MTA), and the Motorola Advanced Provisioning System (MAPS).

The companies also announced the successful interoperability testing of the complete solution.

SAFARI C(3) combines all of the elements of distributed softswitching architecture into a single packet-based unit with the security, quality and reliability of Class 5 circuit switches. When combined with the BSR 64000 from Motorola, SAFARI C(3) allows cable operators to create a telephony infrastructure using PacketCable(TM) standards and carrier-grade platforms with proven interoperability so they can provide the end-to-end quality of service (QoS) control necessary to prosper.

Cedar Point and Motorola will collaborate in the marketing, sales and support of the Solution. The two companies are also announcing the availability of a joint white paper on benefits of this integrated PacketCable telephony solution. It includes information on applications and integration and is now available for free download at broadband.motorola.com/nis/whitepapers.html .

"Motorola Broadband is a long-term partner to many of the largest cable operators, and this agreement demonstrates the value of the SAFARI C(3) in helping cable operators implement flexible PacketCable solutions," said Mark Galvin, founder and chairman of Cedar Point Communications. "This agreement with Motorola Broadband enforces the viability and appeal of the SAFARI C(3) solution and enables us to combine the strength of a proven leader with our own entrepreneurial spirit and agility as we deploy systems that deliver new revenues for the industry."

According to Charles Dougherty, Motorola vice president and general manager, network infrastructure solutions, "Our customers are requesting an end-to-end VoIP solution. Our partnership with Cedar Point helps us meet our customer's requests. Cedar Point's innovative design allows cable operators to combine key functional components in distributed VoIP networks into a single platform and it integrates with the BSR 64000, telephony voice adapters, and advanced provisioning services, to ensure high reliability and ease of turn-up and service activation for end-to-end PacketCable voice services."

SAFARI C(3) utilizes a unique set of PacketClass(TM) technologies to bring the high quality and reliability of today's Class 5 voice switches to a packet environment. Based on CableLabs PacketCable(TM) specifications, SAFARI C(3) provides superior performance and reliability, significantly reducing capital expenditures, system integration and operations costs for cable operators offering telephony services while increasing network integrity, security and privacy.
