SUWANEE, Ga. -- ARRIS (Nasdaq: ARRS - News), in conjunction with LongBoard, Inc., today announced that the companies have successfully demonstrated Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) over a Hybrid-Fiber Coax (HFC) network. ARRIS has also demonstrated interoperability between ARRIS' Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) enabled Touchstone(TM) Telephony Modems and LongBoard's Mobility Application Platform (LMAP(TM)).

Fixed Mobile Convergence allows subscribers to seamlessly roam between cellular and wireless local area networks (WLAN) using a dual-mode handset for voice calls.

"The first service to experience seamless mobility through convergence will be voice, but video and data will soon follow," said Bryant Isaacs, ARRIS President of New Business Ventures, on announcing the achievement. "Voice, video, and data services will be offered on the high bandwidth WLAN when available, and on the wide area cellular network when the user is truly mobile."

"Cable operators represent a potentially large market for fixed mobile convergence activities," said Bill Leslie, founder and CTO of LongBoard. "We are demonstrating interoperability with ARRIS because they are a premier supplier in the cable industry and they understand the value of offering voice mobility services to cable subscribers."

LongBoard's Open Mobile Cable (OMC) application enables MSOs to offer quadruple play mobility services that keep subscribers on their networks and in their control. LongBoard's OMC application is based on LMAP, a SIP-based mobility server that interoperates with the ARRIS SIP-enabled Touchstone Telephony Modem. This carrier-grade mobility server provides a carrier-class software infrastructure for integrating IP-based communications with cutting- edge next-generation applications, including FMC, based on the SIP standard.

ARRIS will demonstrate the joint FMC solution in booth #5452 at the NCTA National Show in San Francisco, Calif, April 3-5, 2005.
