SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- ANDA Networks, the leader in carrier-class solutions for fiber and copper-based access networks, announced today an expansion of capabilities on its EtherToneT platform to include Edge aggregation. This capability enables service providers to deploy highly cost-effective EtherReachT series access devices from ANDA at the customer premises and aggregate those platforms at the central office or PoP using a single EtherEdgeT 4000. As a result, service providers are now fully utilizing very expensive ports on service edge routers and remotely managing the EtherReach access device, permitting carriers to maintain their customers' service level agreements.

"Competing solutions today follow one of two sub optimal approaches: book ending or direct connection to a service edge router. Neither of these approaches effectively utilize transport bandwidth or maximize a carrier's service edge router investment," said Charles Kenmore, president and CEO of ANDA Networks. "By deploying ANDA's EtherTone aggregation solution, carriers are saving on capital, space, and power, and therefore are addressing market opportunities that were not previously feasible." ANDA's business case shows a significant CAPEX savings of between 50% and 80% for carriers, resulting in a 100% return on investment in as little as two months after deployment. In addition, ANDA's EtherTone aggregation solution enables service providers to remotely manage not only ANDA's solutions, but also third-party devices located on the customer premises.

"We've standardized on ANDA's EtherTone Family and are pleased to see an extension of the family to support edge aggregation," said Wil Tirado, director of Network Architecture at XO Communications, a leading provider of local and national telecommunications services for businesses. "The aggregation capabilities of ANDA's EtherTone family will enable us to offer our customers a greater range of Ethernet services, and the ability to upgrade their service levels incrementally to suit their specific service needs."

The EtherTone platform, ANDA's new family of Access and Edge devices for carriers to offer Ethernet-based services such as high-speed Internet access, VoIP, Ethernet Private Line, and Transparent LAN over existing DSL, DS1, DS3, SONET and/or dark fiber networks, is currently in deployment with or being trialed by over 12 major carriers and network service providers across the world.

"Service providers are under pressure to provide an ever-growing set of next-generation services, while constantly battling with increasing equipment upgrade costs," said Shaw Wu, an analyst at American Technology Research. "ANDA's EtherTone family with aggregation addresses these issues by utilizing pre-existing network interfaces and allowing carriers to cut down on the amount of equipment needed to provide these services."
