TDS Telecom secures network with security solutions and intrusion detection and prevention systems from NetScreen
February 4, 2004
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- NetScreen Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: NSCN) today announced that TDS Telecom, a national phone services company, has deployed NetScreen's network security solutions and intrusion detection and prevention (IDP) systems to secure its network and protect critical customer data.
Prior to implementing NetScreen solutions, TDS Telecom used a multi-OS software-based firewall solution that relied upon a third-party solution to provide High Availability (HA) capabilities. Faced with upgrade complexities, performance and scalability limitations as well as a mounting need to protect customers' critical data with more advanced security capabilities, TDS Telecom replaced its previous network security products with NetScreen's hardware-based, purpose-built integrated firewall and virtual private network (VPN) security appliances and systems as well as NetScreen's IDP products.
TDS Telecom has seen many benefits, including increased network security and performance, since using the NetScreen solution. A simplified upgrade process and management also have helped TDS Telecom increase employee productivity and save time and money.
"We originally selected NetScreen because we knew the performance was greater than our previous solution. We had no idea we'd be seeing so many other great benefits," said Matthew Gruett, Internet systems specialist at TDS Telecom.
To provide firewall protection of TDS Telecom's critical data resources, NetScreen-500 systems, purpose-built, hardware-based devices that integrate firewall, VPN and traffic management functionality, are installed in HA mode. Two NetScreen-208 and four NetScreen-204 appliances are deployed in active/passive mode and provide additional layers of protection. NetScreen-204 appliances also are being used to secure a virtual messaging application combining text messaging, fax and voicemail.
Two NetScreen-IDP 500 systems, which provide up to 500 Mbps throughput and operate in-line to accurately detect and drop malicious traffic in real-time before it reaches its victim, are deployed in active/passive mode at TDS Telecom's headquarters.
