Lucent Technologies names Rick Miller new leader of global sales operations

MURRAY HILL, N.J. -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU - news) today named Richard (Rick) Miller as senior vice president of Global Sales Operations, effective May 1, 2002. Miller, 43, will work with Lucent's business leaders and sales teams to continue developing world-class sales practices and to leverage existing strengths across the organization. His focus will be to improve the structure, recruitment, retention and training of Lucent's sales teams. Miller will also be responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of a corporate-wide approach to sales processes such as forecasting, pricing, account planning, compensation plans and recognition programs. He will report directly to Bob Holder, Lucent Technologies' chief operating officer, and work closely with Janet Davidson, president of Integrated Network Solutions, and Jim Brewington, president of Mobility Solutions, who will each continue to have direct responsibility for their sales teams. "I am looking for Rick to lead Lucent's effort to become a world leader in sales excellence,'' said Holder. "He brings a history of sales leadership and management success from his time with Unisys, AT&T and recent start-up OPUS360. Rick will take the lead in making Lucent a more sales-oriented corporation and accelerating the sales restructuring efforts underway.'' Miller will assume responsibility for the functions previously supported by Jay Carter, vice president of Global Sales Operations. Carter will now be responsible for leading the North American Mobility sales team and report to Brewington. Lucent Technologies Inc.
