Golden Line selects Alcatel's transport service switch for network transformation in Russia

PARIS -- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) announced that it has signed a contract with Golden Line, a leading telecom operator in Moscow, for a network transformation project. Golden Line will migrate its existing networks to a converged infrastructure, based on the unique capabilities of the transport service switch and optimized around Ethernet technology.

The deployment of the Alcatel 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS) will enable Golden Line to switch and transport traffic in its various forms (TDM and packet) over a single, high-performance infrastructure with unprecedented optical aggregation capability. As a result of the network simplification, Golden Line will benefit from optimized bandwidth planning, as well as easier management and maintenance. Golden Line joins the nearly 20 customers worldwide, with whom Alcatel is engaged on this award-winning product.

Furthermore, Golden Line will be able to extend its offering for new Ethernet-based services such as Ethernet virtual private network (E-VPN), while maintaining the legacy services. With the universal switching approach offered by the Alcatel 1850 TSS, the operator will significantly minimize the in risk for planning future network and services growth.
