VENICE -- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced a major addition to its market leading broadband access portfolio: the 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM). This IP based broadband access platform is the first solution enabling the deployment of 100% triple play services, supporting the exploding demand for new and bandwidth hungry applications, such as video on demand, HDTV and broadcast TV services for all subscribers simultaneously, which makes it really unique.

Already a strong player in the current IP DSLAM market for high-speed internet services, Alcatel leapfrogs the industry with this innovative product, ready for true massive triple-play roll-out. The Alcatel 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager is the industry's first IP DSLAM with unprecedented capabilities to offer triple play services over IP and Ethernet aggregation networks. It offers a wire-speed architecture, advanced processing and IP functionalities. As markets and standards mature, it will have all the latest broadband access flavors, both in the central office and remote platforms: READSL2, ADSL2plus, VDSL2 and new technologies such as PON and voice-DSL combo.

One of the first customers to trial and deploy the 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager is China Telecom. "Alcatel has been our long-term partner in providing broadband networks and is the market reference for broadband access," says China Telecom. "We are impressed by the performance of this new platform, its stability, reliability and resilience, as well as its capability to offer triple play services at non-blocking speeds to all users at the same time".

"DSL continues to be the dominant broadband access technology worldwide", said Matt Davis, director of broadband access technologies for The Yankee Group. "The broadband marketplace is making a fundamental shift from simple best-effort Internet access to the delivery of value-added services such as VoIP and IP Video, and Alcatel's 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager is well-positioned to support this shift. Alcatel has established itself as the global leader in ATM-based DSLAMs, and this move demonstrates its commitment to evolve and innovate in order to continue to lead the market."

"Bandwidth requirements have increased dramatically in the last two years driven by the sheer volume of bandwidth intensive applications," comments Michel Rahier, chief operating officer of Alcatel's fixed communication activities. "Alcatel has always been at the forefront of broadband and today we are extremely pleased to introduce the 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager into our family of world-class broadband access products. Our initial customer feedback on the 7302 ISAM is extremely positive. This product will enable our customers to meet the rigorous challenges of full triple play services secure in the knowledge they are receiving a superior quality solution from the true market leader."

The Alcatel 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager is a key step in Alcatel's strategy to enable user centric broadband services. It's unique IP features allow operators to bring service intelligence in the network closer to the user. This will allow them to ensure a better user experience, faster new service initialization and effective service networking as part of the end-to-end Alcatel IP solution.

The product builds on Alcatel's experience in DSL broadband access technologies with the Alcatel ASAM (more than 50 million lines shipped to date and a market share of 41 percent in 2Q04). It offers economics of scale by using the same management and operations systems used by operators today with the Alcatel ASAM, and delivers the same high quality of service.
