Advent's Ultraband system and General Bandwidth's G6 Packet Telephony Migration Platform combine for cable telephony solution
May 28, 2002
AUSTIN, Texas -- Advent Networks(tm), a provider of carrier-class cable networking solutions, and General Bandwidth(R) Inc., a telecommunications provider enabling the new voice infrastructure, today announced the interoperability of their two products, Advent Networks' Ultraband system and General Bandwidth's G6 Packet Telephony Migration Platform. Combining the power of Advent's Ultraband technology, which delivers dedicated 5-40 Mbps access over hybrid fiber coax (HFC) networks, with General Bandwidth's G6 Packet Telephony Platform will enable cable operators, for the first time, to provide trunk voice lines over existing HFC. Cable operators now have a complete, carrier-class solution to offer voice services to small and medium businesses (SMBs). SMBs represent a tremendous market opportunity for cable operators, with telecom spending in 2002 expected to total over $38 billion. With the Ultraband/G6 solution, cable operators will be able to realize new revenues. "General Bandwidth's G6 technology is a perfect complement to Advent's Ultraband system. The Ultraband system allows operators to generate higher revenues per megahertz of spectrum, and voice trunking via the G6 is a key service element that supports this goal," said Geoff Tudor, president and CEO of Advent Networks.
