Verizon CFO: Yahoo Acquisition Talk 'Way Too Premature'

Verizon could be interested in acquiring Yahoo's Internet business, but its CFO says its too early to say much about it yet.

"Yahoo? Who's that?" quipped Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) CFO Fran Shammo at the UBS 43rd Annual Global Media And Communications Conference Monday morning. "I think it's way too premature to talk about that."

Verizon would consider if such a buyout was strategic, the CFO said, noting that Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO)'s board is still deciding on its future.

SoftBank Corp. has also been named as a potential buyer for Yahoo's Internet business.

Verizon, of course, is no stranger to buying major portals to enhance its content delivery strategy. It closed a $4.4 billion buyout of AOL in June.
