READING, Hampshire, U.K. -- 186k, the telecoms subsidiary of Lattice Group, today opened for business with the launch of the Southern and Central rings of its national core network. Two final rings, London and the North, are set to go live by the end of 2001 - on time and on budget. 186k will deliver the highest bandwidth capacity of any UK telecoms operator, with a network connecting 20 towns and cities across the UK - from Glasgow to Bristol - and connecting to Metropolitan Area Networks across the major business centres of London, Birmingham and Manchester. The company will initially target wholesale and major corporate customers with a blend of high-performance, high-reliability bandwidth, backed by a market-leading customer service proposition. 186k CEO, Lawrie Haynes, says: "Our research shows that despite highly-competitive bandwidth supply in some limited parts of the UK there is massive pent-up demand on a national and regional basis for a network which can truly power Britain's broadband economy. There are huge gaps in the existing network footprint and 186k will fill them."In a separate release:186k, the telecoms subsidiary of Lattice Group, has signed a 10-year deal with NCP Manchester Limited (NML) to provide high-performance network infrastructure to link 21 car parks in Manchester with CCTV systems. NML is a joint venture company created by NCP, Europe's largest car parking organisation, and Manchester City Council. The 186k network will provide NML with an efficient way to monitor every car park in the City centre from a central point and improve safety for its customers. The contract will support 186k's plans to build out a Metro Area Network (MAN) in Manchester and deliver industry-leading network capacity and reliability to the doors of thousands of businesses.186k Ltd.
