OAKLAND, Calif. -- Zhone Technologies today announced that BT Telecommunications Group PLC has selected Zhone's innovative Multi-Access Line Concentrator (MALC(TM)) delivery platform to support the company's comprehensive multiservice DSL end-to-end solution rollout in Ireland. BT's selection of the MALC was made possible through Zhone's OEM partnership with Ericsson, a leading communications supplier to service providers globally. Zhone's MALC reduces BT's cost and complexity of deploying services at the edge by supporting both traditional TDM and broadband access in a single platform. In addition to operational cost benefits, MALC provides BT with ample backplane capacity for both current and future service delivery, line and trunk flexibility, OSS Integration, and industry leading density and price. "We selected the Zhone MALC as it offers carriers a whole new level of technical flexibility and operational efficiency when deploying DSL services," said Steve Andrews, president, carrier and networks for BT Ignite. "Clearly Zhone's strategy for supplying unified access technology in the support of faster broadband service deployment is right on time. We have no doubt that more carriers like BT Ignite will find greater value in this, as well as other solutions offered by Zhone." Zhone Technologies Inc. BT Ignite
