Broadwing Hires Three Execs

John McLeod becomes VP of network operations; Mike Stewart becomes president of mid-markets; Jack Brooks is VP of human resources

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The "new" Broadwing Communications (NYSE:BRW), an innovative supplier of data, voice and video solutions over its nationwide all-optical network, today announced the addition of three senior executives to a leadership team charged with leading the company to profitability.

The three new executives are:

John McLeod, a 17-year veteran of the telecommunications industry, with broad experience in operations, network planning, customer care, sales and marketing has joined Broadwing as vice president of network operations. Prior to joining Broadwing, McLeod served in various management positions at Metromedia Fiber Network (MFN), including senior vice president of operations and vice president of market development and customer implementation. He is responsible for customer care and for operating, maintaining and monitoring Broadwing's almost 19,000-mile nationwide network.

Mike Stewart, former president of broadband services at NTT/VERIO, where he had responsibility for the network operations center, customer care, sales, product management and marketing functions, has joined Broadwing as president of mid-markets. Prior to his position at NTT/VERIO, Stewart was president of the Asia Pacific Group at UUNet, focusing on customers in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia. He also served in various leadership positions at EDS. In his new role at Broadwing, Stewart is focused on selling voice and data services, and bundled telecommunications products to small and medium size businesses.

Jack Brooks, former vice president of global human resources at Efficient Networks in Dallas, Texas, has joined Broadwing as vice president of human resources. Brooks has over 20 years of corporate experience in all aspects of human resources including recruiting, performance management, compensation, benefits and employee relations. Brooks also held executive global human resources positions at Sequent Computer Systems, Data General Corporation and American Diversified Corporation.

The three new executives join Spagnolo and a team that includes Mike Jones, Broadwing's chief technology officer and Lynn Anderson, Broadwing's chief financial officer. The team also includes Dick Putt, president of national accounts, focused on large enterprise customers, and Charlie Lenis, vice president of strategic carrier accounts, focused on top-tier wholesale carrier customers.
