TOT Sticks With Keymile

HANOVER, Germany -- To offer its customers advanced broadband services, the Thai state telephone company is to update its infrastructure. KEYMILE's MileGate Multi-Service Access Nodes will be the key components.

After a public tender, the state Telephone Organization of Thailand (TOT Public Company Ltd.) placed an order with KEYMILE, a leading manufacturer and supplier of Next-Generation Access systems, to supply Multi-Service Access Nodes. It concerns MileGate 2500 systems in outdoor cabinets. The KEYMILE products are part of the key project, handled by the local systems integrator and the KEYMILE partner Unicomm Engineering in Bangkok. The tender was given after a technical pre-qualification phase and thanks to the good price-performance ratio. The IP-MSAN MileGate replaces KEYMILE's Multi-Service Access system UMUX which has been employed at TOT for a couple of years.

The Telephone Organization of Thailand will use MileGate systems to expand its broadband services. The fixed line network operator foresees high growth potential in this area. As far as private customers are concerned, they aim to increase sales per customer (ARPU = Average Revenue per User) by offering more broadband services. ADSL2plus and the VoIP-Media Gateway will be used for voice data. The Telephone Organization of Thailand also addresses business customers via SHDSL services. Both customer groups can be connected via MileGate systems simultaneously.

To be able to offer enhanced broadband services using DSL technology, the Thai fixed line network operator has to place the access systems closer to its customers' homes or business premises. Because of their compact and robust design, the MileGate systems can be easily installed in the prevailing tropical conditions in outstations. MileGate 2500 can withstand operating temperatures of +60 °C. With its variety of functions, MileGate, the Multi-Service Access Node is well prepared for future demands, for example gradual conversion of the entire network to IP technology and therefore migration to the Next Generation Network.
