LS Cable is set to roll out its new G-PON technology
July 24, 2008
SEOUL -- LS Cable is set to roll out its new G-PON technology, which offers transmission speeds three times faster than traditional Ethernet connections.
G-PON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) telecommunications equipment has been developed to work across the FTTH (Fibre to the Home) network. The equipment connects the optical cable network of telephone stations and subscribers.
LS Cable is one of only a handful of specialists to offer G-PON technology and the company believes its huge growth potential has yet to be realised on a commercial basis.
As well as being three times faster than E-PON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network), G-PON also has excellent compatibility among telecommunication companies. These include leased line, ordinary telephone and video, and high-speed internet service and IPTV.
Min-Soo Kim, managing director of LS Cable UK Ltd., says: “As well as offering domestic solutions, we believe that G-PON has many potential commercial applications and it is these that we will be focusing on as we launch the product in Europe.”
