Bookham Launches 7-Watt Pump Laser

ZURICH -- Bookham, Inc. (NASDAQ: BKHM), a leading provider of optical components, modules and subsystems, is to introduce a new high power un-cooled multimode pump laser module for fiber laser pumping at Laser 2005 in Munich next week. The pump module combines high power with high reliability and stable performance.

The new multimode pump laser module allows a significant step forward in the design of current and next generation fiber laser systems by providing increased brightness at lower cost and with high reliability. The un-cooled module, incorporating the latest generation of multimode pump laser chips from the Bookham Zurich facility, delivers above 7W light output power from a multimode fiber with 105 ƒÝm core diameter and 0.15 or 0.22 numerical aperture. Powers of more than 10W out of fiber have been successfully achieved, demonstrating the capability of the design. The hermetic module with floating anode/cathode is available in various packaging form factors.
