CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Luminous Networks, Inc., the industry's first provider of carrier class Gigabit IP over Fiber(TM) optical access switches, today announced that IP Networks, Inc., an innovative Fiber Local Exchange Carrier (FLEC), has completed a beta test implementation of Luminous Networks' PacketWave(TM) optical switching technology. IP Networks is set to launch its service offerings later this year by deploying an all optical network, positioning them to compete with incumbent carriers for high IP traffic businesses.

"IP Networks is an innovative organization in the wide open FLEC market which is quickly developing in major metropolitan areas around the country to take advantage of the availability of installed dark fiber and construction of new fiber systems," said Alex Naqvi, president and CEO of Luminous Networks. "They plan to use the power of PacketWave to address the specific needs of their high demand customers. IP Networks has recognized that using our PacketWave system will help them launch their business with a technical advantage, simplify management of their network, and allow them to scale dramatically as they grow the company."
