BRISTOL, U.K. -- Apertio, the leading independent provider of subscriber-centric networks, today announced that Tele2, one of Europe’s leading telecom operators, has chosen to consolidate its core network on Apertio One software. Tele2 will consolidate its 3.5 million Swedish subscribers, held on eight separate Home Location Registers (HLR), onto a single logical Apertio One-HLR. This is being done as part of Tele2’s next generation network programme.

Apertio One-HLR is an ideal choice as an evolutionary replacement for Tele2’s proprietary HLR systems as it is massively scalable - from less than 1 million to more than 100 million subscribers – and can be highly distributed, allowing a wide range of disparate operations to be consolidated into a single logical HLR platform.

Tele2 will benefit from reduced cost and reduced complexity of provisioning and management of subscriber data in its networks, as a result of this consolidation. The open database underpinning the Apertio One-HLR will also enable Tele2 to share HLR data with other network services, allowing greater flexibility in the development of new services, at a substantially lower cost and time-to-market.

“The implementation of a single logical HLR platform for our network will allow us to streamline our business operations and help reduce our future OPEX”, said Björn Lundström, CTO, Tele2. “Our decision to choose One-HLR follows a thorough evaluation of the market. Migrating to Apertio One will allow us to closely align our future technology investments with the growth of our company.”

The Apertio One suite is a portfolio of software-based core network products, built on open industry standards, and transforms traditional networks by allowing communications operators to place the subscriber at the heart of their business.

“There is growing recognition in the telecoms industry that in order to provide increased levels of service in a cost-efficient manner operators need to migrate away from proprietary hardware towards a software-based network,” said Andrew Wyatt, vice president, global marketing, Apertio. “By adopting this approach, which reaffirms Apertio’s strategy, operators such as Tele2 will benefit from greatly reduced time-to-market of new services, and lay the foundations for an IP-based network.”
