AMCC Adds to Board

SAN DIEGO -- Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (Nasdaq: AMCC) today announced that Dr. Murray A. Goldman has been elected to AMCC's board of directors and appointed as a member of the board's Compensation Committee. Goldman's addition brings the board of directors to a total of ten members.

Dr. Goldman was executive vice president, office of the president, Semiconductor Products Sector at Motorola from which he retired in January 1997, having joined Motorola in July 1969. Dr. Goldman's career at Motorola was marked by his leadership in building the company's microprocessor and microcontroller businesses from startup to several billion dollars in annual sales. Dr. Goldman has served as chairman of the board of directors of Transmeta Corporation, a developer of x86-compatible software-based microprocessors and advanced power management technologies, since November 1998. He served as business advisor to Transmeta from March 1997 to November 1998 and as chief executive officer from October 2001 to April 2002.

Dr. Goldman holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and an M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from New York University.

Dr. Goldman also serves on the boards of Pericom Semiconductor Corporation, a designer and developer of interface integrated circuits and frequency control products, and Three Five Systems, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of display panels.
