MINNEAPOLIS -- ADC (Nasdaq:ADCT; www.adc.com) today announced that it will feature new innovations in broadcast connectivity equipment at this year's IBC 2003 event in Amsterdam, 12-16 September.

"The new products we've announced today further ADC's capabilities to offer a breadth of products and solutions to the broadcast industry," said Jeff Peters, senior product manager, broadcast and entertainment equipment for ADC. "We have product deployed at all the major television networks and broadcast companies in the Americas as well as in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. ADC continues to innovate and assist broadcast companies around the world to accommodate the demand for high definition and update facility equipment for the future."

At IBC, ADC unveiled several new broadcast equipment offerings, including:

  • AES Front-Facing Balun: The new ADC 75 - 110 Ohm AES front-facing balun converts traditional copper pairs to coax to give technicians the ability to run longer lines. It features a unique quad-pack design with four baluns making it faster and easier to terminate connections. With the quad design, a standard two-rack unit will accommodate up to 64 circuits per chassis. The forward facing design is smaller and lighter and can be used with four-channel output tape decks and non-linear editing systems.

  • SJF Series Video Patch Panel: The SJF Series Video Patch Panel features a standard FJ2000 video jack with a BNC backend modified to accommodate F connector patching. The panel is designed for multiple system operators (MSOs), cable companies and television stations using a high quantity of F connectors in plant operations. The panel provides a quick way to patch without having to convert to BNC. It is available in all standard configurations and fits in both one- and two-rack units. The SJF Series is rated to 900 MHz for analog and serial digital video up to 360 Mb/ps.

  • BNC Connectors for OEMs: ADC has further expanded its line of BNC connectors designing several connectors specifically for OEMs including router manufacturers and high-speed digital equipment makers who require high performance BNC connectors. These connectors provide a reliable and universally accepted way to terminate coaxial cable. ADC's BNC connectors feature electrical performance (up to 3 GHz), achieved by unique design elements in the industry's truest 75 Ohm connector. Precision moulded insulators with locking gold-plated center conductors ensure true 75 Ohm characteristic impedance. Innovative features result in significant reduction of impedance mismatch throughout the network and improved transmission reliability in digital applications. New connectors include a card edge BNC female connector and a new bulkhead jack connector for mini coax.

At IBC 2003, ADC will also feature for the first time in Europe:

  • Pro Patch(TM) Programmable System: Pro Patch is a high density Bantam Audio patching system engineered for mobile truck applications. The new patent-pending Pro Patch system is designed to fit applications requiring a compact normals-adjustable 2X48 Bantam patch panel in a one-rack space solution. Product features include selectable normals and grounds and the ability to convert to a 1.5 rack-unit panel with larger designation strips with the installation of a conversion kit.

  • High-Performance F and RCA connectors: The High-Performance F Connector features a BNC-style two-piece center pin and body, which increases reliability and provides higher performing signal levels through the F connector. The large body threaded, true 75 Ohm connector delivers low return loss, excellent insertion loss and RF leakage performance and includes a gold-plated crimp center pin. Connectors are available in many sizes to accommodate most popular coaxial cables. The High-Performance RCA connector includes the same features as the F connector for equipment that requires a precision RCA type connector.

  • IEEE 1394 Firewire(TM) Patch Panel: Designed for use in the broadcast industry, this new product is a 24-port one-rack unit high panel. IEEE 1394 connectors are on both sides of the panel with straight-through wiring. This panel is designed to be an interconnection point for non-linear editing suites that use the Firewire protocol.

Fiber connectivity equipment is rapidly becoming a popular choice for broadcast companies as engineers upgrade networks to accommodate higher bandwidth transport, including wideband HDTV. As broadcast company networks grow to support non-linear/post-production editing, internal data networks often exceed the limits of traditional copper capabilities. In each of these cases, fiber serves as the transmission medium of choice.

ADC's complete line of fiber connectivity products designed for the broadcast marketplace will be displayed at IBC 2003. These products include a wide array of equipment capable of terminating 12 to 144 fibers as well as protecting, managing, and storing fiber cables in a broadcast environment.
