Companies show Vitesse's 10 Gbit/s driver working with Cyoptics' modulator

AMSTERDAM - ECOC - CyOptics Inc., a leading developer ofIndium Phosphide based active optical components, and Vitesse SemiconductorCorporation (NASDAQ: VTSS) today announced interoperability of their 10Gb/soptical and electronic components. The companies will demonstrate opticaltransmission using the Vitesse VSC7991 10Gb/s modulator driver, and theCyOptics 10Gb/s Electro-Absorption Modulator (EAM) at the EuropeanConference on Optical Communications (ECOC) in Amsterdam, October 1-3, atBooth, #108.

The CyOptics 10Gb/s EAM is a highly compact, low cost optical modulator,targeted to replace the traditional Lithium Niobate modulators in metro andlong reach applications. Fabricated using mature semiconductor processingtechnology, its Indium Phosphide (InP) based design provides excellentmanufacturability, a crucial advantage in an industry striving to lowercost while improving performance. Pricing of the 10Gb/s EAM is $1,500 inquantities of 1,000.

The Vitesse VSC7991 is a single chip 10Gb/s EAM driver with bandwidthsufficient to accommodate Forward Error Correction (FEC). Its 3Vp-p drivevoltage enables excellent EAM eye characteristics. It also performsseamlessly with Vitesse's extensive line of 10Gb/s SONET/SDH multiplexerIC's. For design flexibility, the VSC7991 is available in die form, withknown good die tested at speed, or a low-cost 32-pin 5mm CQFXP package. Indie form, the VSC7991 is priced at $126 in quantities of 1,000. In theCQFXP package, the VSC7991 is priced at $151. Both are in full production now.
