4:45 AM Former Comcast Media Center COO Gary Traver has resurfaced at a stealthy startup called CloudBurst TV
4:45 AM -- NEW YORK -- Gary Traver, the former SVP and COO of the Comcast Media Center (CMC) , is back in action as the CEO and one of the principals of a startup called CloudBurst TV.
Traver, who abruptly left the CMC last August, resurfaced here Wednesday at The SeaChange International Summit to speak on a panel about advertising in the TV Everywhere world. He started with CloudBurst TV in October 2010. (See Traver Out as Comcast Media Center Chief .)
Traver's not saying much about CloudBurst TV, a seven-person company that's in stealth mode as it finalizes its business plan. (It doesn't even have a functioning website yet.) However, the company tagline is "Torrential Entertainment," so it seems it'll be involved in some sort of over-the-top (OTT) video play.
Traver, who's also doing some consulting, did drop a little hint in that direction, noting that he's been talking to some video content providers/networks about how to build reach by complementing an MSO-direct distribution model with an OTT strategy, and exploring whether it might make sense for a video startup to use OTT from the get-go.
