MENLO PARK, Calif. -- Centec, a leading innovator of IP/Ethernet switching silicon and advanced turnkey system solutions and Vello Systems, a leading provider of open networking software, today announced the companies will exhibit and demonstrate the new Centec V series Open SDN switch with the VellOS software platform for installation at enterprise campuses or the network operations centers of data centers, ISPs and other network providers. These new products are the result of a collaboration that began in 2012 and feature the Centec N-Flow switch architecture and the VellOS complete software stack, including Vello’s GUI-style network policy and control applications, a network operating system with rich APIs and an integrated OpenFlow-based controller. The networking infrastructure industry is embracing the OpenFlow movement to separate the “control plane” from physical network equipment, and incorporate it into fully standards-based application provisioning interfaces that can run on any platform of a customer’s choosing. Today’s networking systems were designed to solve problems that no longer exist for customers. Large enterprises are consolidating into fewer and more complex data centers in which new server and application models are deployed. Furthermore, these networks are being overwhelmed by the growth of BYOD, which requires networking equipment to be provisioned, administered and managed on a device-by-device basis. Complicating the matter, equipment vendors typically provide proprietary network control mechanisms that make coordinating and provisioning across the network time consuming and costly.“To date, provisioning network resources to meet new application and computing requirements can take a week or more -- services are more or less beholden to the network architecture,” said Karl May, Chief Executive Officer, Vello Systems. “This is why working with Centec is so important. Together we can turn that paradigm around to create enterprise networking environments featuring predictable service from network, storage, and compute resources on an on demand basis. These benefits are also realized on a much lower cost basis than traditional solutions.”Centec Networks (Su Zhou) Co. Ltd.
