CAMBRIDGE, U.K. -- Polatis, the Cambridge-based company developing leading-edge photonic modules and components for telecommunications equipment vendors, today announces that it will focus all its resources on seizing the low loss, modular all-optical switch market opportunity.Having demonstrated their unique ultra low loss (sub 1dB) all-optical matrix switch technology, Polatis has taken the important strategic decision of restructuring resources to ensure development of this product takes top priority. As a result the company has decided that its actuated Bragg Grating product range is not core to the business and consequently will be ceasing development and marketing in this area. Polatis are in discussions with their partners in this area with regards to them taking this product line forward. As part of this restructuring, Elmo Perera has resigned as COO and 8 further staff have been made redundant. Andrew Dames, founder of Polatis, will step down as CEO to take the role of Research Director, and Gary Vanstone (Chairman) will be taking over the duties of CEO on an interim basis whilst the new CEO recruitment process is being completed.Gary Vanstone, Chairman at Polatis states, “Given the industry’s current climate, it is imperative that our resources are suitably focused on clearly identified market requirements. Our sub 1 dB all-optical switch technology allows our customers to realise highly flexible and dynamic networks. We are presented with a great opportunity and we are pulling out all the stops to ensure that we achieve it.”Polatis Ltd.
