SAN JOSE, Calif., and ROTTERDAM, Netherlands -- Redback Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: RBAK), a leading provider of next-generation broadband networking equipment, today announced that U.K. based ISP PIPEX, will use both the Redback® SmartEdge™ 800 Router and SMS™ 10000 platform of subscriber management systems for its multi-city broadband rollout. As a partner in the deal, Telindus of U.K. will facilitate the integration and provide services and support. PIPEX has taken an assertive stance on the marketing of DSL in the U.K., and offers one of the lowest price/month broadband services available. The strategy employed to gain market share is paying off considerably and PIPEX is currently connecting around 600 new subscribers a day with the goal of more than one hundred thousand new subscribers by the end of 2002. “Redback has a strong presence both here in the U.K. and throughout Europe,” said David Rickards, Managing Director of PIPEX. “As the fastest growing ADSL broadband provider in the U.K., PIPEX is committed to providing a fast and reliable connection to the Internet for all its customers. The flexibility, scalability and feature set of the SMS 10000 system allows us to manage our subscriber platform effectively and then take advantage of the performance, density and high availability of the SmartEdge Router to handoff to UUNET/WorldCom.” With this combined solution, PIPEX will use the existing infrastructure of British Telecom’s DSL network and will aggregate subscribers on the SMS 10000. PIPEX will then use the SmartEdge 800 Router as an edge aggregation device to feed the high-speed Internet traffic into UUNET/WorldCom’s network. Working seamlessly together, these two platforms offer PIPEX the best combination of performance and scalability while optimizing density and operational costs. Redback Networks Inc.Pipex
