This weekend's International Broadcasters Convention in Amsterdam set the stage for the introduction of a new Video On Demand system over IP, which highlights a video gateway developed by Path 1 Network Technologies Inc. (OTCBB:PNWK) (Frankfurt:PNT) and BarcoNet NV (Euronext:BARN).

>p> Path 1 developed the gateway under a joint development agreement with BarcoNet, a leading provider of multimedia distribution solutions for broadband and broadcast applications. The IP solution provides high quality movies to the Video On Demand gateway by multiplexing video streams of Internet Protocol data into individual movie streams requested by the viewer.

Unlike today's "streaming video" solutions, the Path 1 application features true broadcast quality video, with over 90 streams through a single gateway. Nick Fielibert, COO & CTO of BarcoNet commented at the IBC announcement: "Using IP to transport Video not only reduces cost, but also simplifies tremendously the delivery to the home: as each stream is directed to the right destination by using its IP address."

By making use of the newly developed iMUX IP-to-ASI gateway, the solution can be used in combination with today's cable set-top boxes, yet is easily upgradeable to an end-to-end IP-based system using IP-based set-top boxes. Frederick A. Cary, CEO of Path 1 stated: "We are truly excited about the successful results of our partnership with BarcoNet and the fact that they have chosen to launch our technology as a critical component of their end-to-end solution."
